Taiwan's third annual Asia Blockchain Summit will be held virtually this year due to the pandemic. From July 15-19, professionals will convene remotely to discuss the real-world applications of blockchain technology. The lineup of speakers includes Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian to walk in space, and Hester M. Peirce, commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange.

The Asia Blockchain Summit brings together professionals from startups, investment firms, financial services giants, global brands, academic institutions, media and policy groups. This year for the first time, the summit will take place virtually over five days starting July 15. There’s an impressive roster of speakers lined up, including the first Canadian commander of the International Space Station.

Commander Hadfield, the first Canadian to walk in space, will be one of the speakers at the summit. He has flown two Space Shuttle missions and served as commander of the International Space Station.

I'll talk about some of my space experiences, but more importantly our lessons we've learned in our technology are directly applicable to blockchain.

The summit will see Eric Glen Weyl, principal researcher of Microsoft, speak with Taiwan's Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang about radical digital social innovation. The U.S. Securities and Exchange commissioner Hester Maria Peirce will also make an appearance, organizers say.

One of the huge potential in my belief of blockchain is trade finance. Imagine if all the minute details is recorded on chain. You can know exactly what happens, what occurs. You can see all its trail, check it out in real time. Everything is on chain and verifiable by multiple parties you can trust.

Organizers hope the summit will allow professionals to exchange ideas about the applications that blockchain technology can offer across different sectors. Registration is now open online.
